JDM B16B spark plug wire indentification help
#1
Ok need help identifying these wires

Friend just bought a JDM B16B hatch and after two days of owning it, one of the spark plug wires stopped working. So went to Autozone and took a look at all the other wires that we thought might work (usdm B16A2,3, GSR...). Those all had the long spark plug boot instead of the short one like in the pic. I have researched like crazy... cant find any info on this wire. It says "magstar gold mag wire" on it. I found the magstar website but none of the tabs will load for me and it appears to be a marine wire.... What I'm wondering is if maybe he has a different head on his B16B. Any help appreciated as he is driving around with a D16Y8 wire on it and the hood wont shut right haha.

Point me in the right direction please!

LOL those look funny...

on a serious note...i've never seen wires like that on a Honda but fortunately Honda did stamp every one of their cyl. heads by a series of one letter and two numbers...the stamping is visible thru the front of the cyl. head underneith the valve cover but on top of the exhaust ports

and example is "P08" wich is a d16 sohc vtec head
"P30" wich is a b16 dohc vtec head
"P72" wich is a gsr head
"P73" wich is a type R head
and those are the only ones i know 4rm the top of my head

and in a circular stamp...honda also put the year of the head as well so let us know what u find

He went home for the night but I will get pics of the motor tomorrow. Block is stamped B16B... but like I said, I'll have to investigate the head a little more. It also has 12 point spark plugs in it? If that helps identify it lol. Cant get them out without a special socket...

I have some odd feeling that the spark plugs sit too high.

...and so they made some weird spark plug wires work with the weird plugs? Yeah could be... ugh. I guess the previous owner had a shop do EVERYTHING as far as the swap/tune up/oil and he knows nothing about it.

So assuming it is a B16B head, what spark plug wire would be the usdm equivalent?? Shouldn't any B16 wire fit?

All b series wires are the same.

CTR, ITR, B16 all use the same exact head casting. Wires will be the same for all applications. Not sure what was on there before, but I would go to Honda or Acura and pick up an OEM set.

As for the plugs, replace them with NGK plugs for an ITR.

BTW, what I suggested above is what I did for my B16B motor and I never had an issue with it.

Ok cool, is autozone going to carry spark plugs for a B18C5 or are we gonna have to order them online somewhere?

Okay so figured it out! just thought I would post up what it was, in the rare event someone else runs into this lol.

The car had these in it http://fireintheholedist.com/directHits.htm . Strange, I've never seen anything like them before. Its an NA car so I cant figure out why these were even worth someone putting in... oh well. So thanks for your help guys, car is now running on oem spark plug wires.
